Job Description
Performs mechanical work associated with the repair and maintenance
of water control structures, as well as field station buildings and
facilities. Mechanical ability to perform overhauls on water
control gates and gearboxes, and small pumps. Performs welding
including brazing torch work, cutting, and fitting, and arc welding
layout and design. Ability to assist with repairs and installations
of electrical equipment a plus. Work experience performing
hydraulic maintenance, repair or installations preferred
Utilizes hand tools, power tools, and hydraulic and pneumatic
equipment. Must be able to read and follow job specifications,
blueprints, and diagrams.
This position is required to participate in the Pumping Operations
Program as either a pump station assistant (PSA) or pump station
operator (PSO). Program participants will be required to
successfully master and demonstrate competency in pump station
operations and maintenance (diesel engine operations).
Position will be subject to random drug screenings.
All other duties as assigned.
The Miami Field Station work hours are Monday - Thursday, 6:00 AM -
4:30 PM. Offices are closed on Friday.
Employment Guidelines
High School Diploma or GED and 2+ years' experience in structure
and facility maintenance or mechanical repair.
An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may
be substituted as appropriate.
The hiring range for this position is $(49,171.20) to $(57,241.60)
based on education and years of relevant work experience.
Licenses
Valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
will be required without restriction to operate a vehicle equipped
with a manual transmission and air brakes, or the ability to obtain
within 6 months from the date of hire and/or placement in the job.
If the selected candidate does not currently possess CDL the
District will provide 60 days from the date of hire to obtain CDL
Learner's Permit and 6 months to obtain CDL License. The district
is willing to pay the cost of the CDL training program.
Ability to obtain certification in Rigging, Forklift Operations,
First Response-Oil and Chemical Spills, CPR and First Aid.
Ability to obtain pump station assistant status within 6 months
from the date of hire and/or placement in job.
Physical Requirements / Working Environment
Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of
emergency management, this position may at times, be required to
provide support before, during and after major storm events and
emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared
emergencies, depending on the assigned emergency response role.
Regularly sets up, adjusts, controls, tests, and operates equipment
to complete assignments. The work environment may be hot and humid
with no facilities. Moves or otherwise transports equipment
weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
Other physical requirements include basic water skills and the
ability to swim. Drive/operate equipment. Exposure to carbon
monoxide and dust, (oils/grease/coolants/solvents), exposure to
stinging/biting insects, snakes, alligators. Exposure to water
pollution, contaminants, debris, move/transport equipment, walking,
and rough terrain.
Performs field work in a general outdoor environment with regular
exposure to unpredictable weather conditions, sun, heat, and rain.
Overtime will be required based on weather and/or environmental
conditions.
